James M. Wells has attempted to provide the reader with "the truth" concerning Patrick Henry as revealed in his convictions, character, and dedication to causes for this country. Over the years history has been rewritten and repackaged in textbooks and movies, and we have lost the record of the legacy of Patrick Henry and an awareness of the importance of his leadership during the American Revolution and in the First Continental Congress.
His convictions, character, and dedication to the cause of liberty were evident in his famous words, "Give me liberty or give me death!" Mr. Wells, in his book, The Christian Philosophy of Patrick Henry, insures that the essence of this incredible man is captured, as is evident in Mr. Henry's truth of sound doctrine. "I know, sir, how well it becomes a liberal man and an Christian to forget and forgive. As individuals professing a holy religion, it is our bounden duty to forgive injuries done to us as individuals. But when to the character of Christian you add the character of patriot, you are in a different situation. Our mild and holy system of religion inculcates an admirable maxim of forbearance. If your enemy smite one cheek, turn the other to him. But you must stop there. You cannot apply this to your country. As members of a social community, the maxim does not apply to you. When you consider injuries done to your country, your political duty tells you of vengeance. Forgive as a private man, but never forgive public injuries. Observations of this nature are exceedingly unpleasant, but it is my duty to use them."
This is an excellent book for any home library, and is essential for use during your teaching of American history.

The Christian Philosophy of Patrick Henry
By: James M. Wells
The Christian Philosophy of Patrick Henry is an inspiration! What a read! This softcover, 100+ page book about Patrick Henry, gives us a look at a man who was first a foremost, a man dedicated to serving his Creator, and secondly a true patriot!
This is a wonderful account of Henry's life and times, and challenges us the reader, to examine what happened then, but to take a good look at what is happening in our own times, to the United States as a whole.
Throughout this book, and Henry's life, you see that his convictions that the Lord had placed in his heart came first, staying true to doctrine, and the Word of God. Sadly, that is not the case of most in our government today.
This is a GREAT read for students, adults, really for anyone. You feel, upon reading, that you get to 'know' Mr. Henry, and I found myself shouting inside, "RIGHT ON! and "That's the way it SHOULD BE!" I found it very, very interesting!
Isn't it so ironic, that the ?Declaration of Independence declares all men are entitled by God, to ?life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? but at the same time the authors (Henry indeed) knew that ?life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? could only be maintained, truly, and was dependant on, the morality of the people, on how closely they followed God's Commandments"
This account of Patrick Henry's life will challenge your thinking, make you ponder the future of this country. It will also help you to understand in a fuller manner, the founding fathers of this country, their thinking, and how this nation is TRULY built on God's blessings, and Christian Principles. And how we as a nation need to recognize that.
This is a great book, it would make a wonderful addition to any family/homeschool library. The only thing I'd like to see changed is that it be produced in a hardcover. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly. It falls into the 'must read' category!
