If you have enjoyed reading D?Aulaires? Greek Myths with your children, you will appreciate these guides from the people at Memoria Press. Recommended for grades 3-6, a separate teacher guide and student guide are available. There are 31 lessons plus 6 review lessons.

The structure of the lessons is as follows: Section 1 lists facts to learn and recite. These are generally the characters and places in the myths. Section 2 is a vocabulary section. To capitalize on the rich vocabulary of the myths, students are given the challenge to understand ten words in each lesson. Section 3 is a set of comprehension questions. The teacher's guide gives the answers. Section 4 is an oral and picture review in which students look at the lush illustrations in the text and identify characters, places, and items from the stories.

At the end of each volume is a list of the planets and their moons (from which many of the characters? names derive), a map of ancient Greece, and a pronunciation guide.

Some homeschoolers debate the value of studying myths. I view them as a great springboard to discuss the strength, power, and validity of our Christian faith. In addition, a well-read student will miss many literary references in their other reading without some knowledge of Greek myths. These guides make the study easier for the parent and help the student to remember and draw out the nuggets in the stories.
