Same-Sex Marriage: Putting Every Household at Risk Review by Heather W. Allen

By: Mathew D. Staver
Broadman & Holman Publishers
Nashville, TN

Marriage has always been defined as one man and one woman uniting together to become one flesh. Who would have ever thought our society would be faced with the moral issue of same-sex marriage? In fact, D. James Kennedy purports that "Same-sex marriage is the cultural battle of the twenty-first century."

Matthew Staver makes a convincing presentation of the negative ramifications of same-sex marriage to our children, our marriages, our country, and not unbelievably, our world. He shows how same-sex marriage is more than the tolerating of choices of consenting adults and why we need to be informed and involved in this movement.

As I read this book, it became increasingly obvious that those individuals who will be most affected by same-sex marriage are our children. To that end, Mr. Staver addresses several questions:

- Will same-sex marriage harm children?
- Will gender identity in children be affected?
- What should parents be aware of when raising children?
- Gender development
- Same-sex attractions
- The homosexual agenda
- Will same-sex marriage harm my marriage?
- Does the homosexual movement pose a threat to freedom of speech and religion?
- Should the U.S. Constitution be amended to preserve tradition marriage?
- What can we do to preserve and strengthen the institution of marriage?

The book is divided into ten chapters, including: (1) Why Defend Marriage Between a Man and a Woman?; (2) Setting Boundaries Saves Lives; (3) Our Children at Risk; (4) From Desensitization to Conversion; (5) Silencing the Opposition; (6) Reinventing History: Sexual Preference is not a Civil Right; (7) The Legal and Political Battle; (8) In the Image of God; (9) Sinners in the Hand of a Loving God; and (10) Drawing a Line in the Sand.

While Mr. Staver deals with religious topics, much of the book addresses same-sex marriage from a social science, legal, and historical perspective. Overall, I felt that this book is one that should be read by everyone. It provides the historical, political, legal, and biblical reasons for supporting traditional marriage. If you are unsure of your position regarding same-sex marriage, this book is sure to address your questions and concerns. If you support same-sex marriage, hopefully the information presented will cause you to question your position.

This is an excellent book and will serve to educate and motivate people regarding why they must fight to preserve traditional marriage. It is also helpful in understanding why the fight for traditional marriage is so important, and will enable readers to better defend their position. I highly recommend Matthew Staver's book, Same-Sex Marriage: Putting Every Household at Risk.
