When Children Love to Learn Review by Kim Wolf

(A Practical Application of Charlotte Mason’s Philosophy for Today)
General Editor: Elaine Cooper
https://www.crossway.org/

One of the first books I read about homeschooling was “For the Children’s Sake” by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. That was about 19 years ago. I was completely impressed with her explanation that Charlotte Mason’s approach to teaching children was to, FIRST, recognize that each and every child is made in the image of God and should be treated as such.

This book is the best book I’ve read that puts the “everyday spin” on the Mason teaching method. Some books are so over one’s head that we everyday-busy-moms don’t have the time to sit down and decipher and weed through all the intellectual muck to get to the heart of what we’re wanting to know! Elaine Cooper has gathered several educators who are proponents of the Mason method into one READABLE book. Not only is Susan Schaeffer Macaulay back to do a superb job of explaining “The Value of Charlotte Mason’s Work for Today,” but she has several others who have written chapters such as: The Child s a Person, The Four Pillars of Education (Atmosphere, Discipline, Life, Science of Relations). Along with excellent chapters explaining of all those terms you’ve heard tossed around by those who adhere to the Mason method: Living Books, Narration, Nature Study and Notebooks…

This is the best book about the Charlotte Mason method to come out in years. If you are thinking about looking into it, this new book should be the first book you read.
