From the very beginning chapter, The Payload grabs your attention and takes you on a ride full of twists, turns, and a lot of danger. This book cannot be reviewed too thoroughly or you'll know too much before you even begin reading it! The Payload follows Dutch Bennett, a law school graduate about to take the bar exam and begin practicing law, but not in his field of choice. Due to his average grades, he can only find a job with a man practicing space law. One evening, he receives an email from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but the message appears incomplete. When he responds to the email, he sets in motion a twisted plot to incriminate two companies of a crime they didn't commit. He enlists the help of Tamara Jenkins, a private investigator, to find out the truth behind the email that he received. Dutch trusts her every move, only to find out later that she is not who she appears to be. Then Dutch finds out that HE is being fingered as the mastermind behind the terrible plot! Will he be able to prove his innocence? Will he finally be able to turn his life over to God? Will the real perpetrators of the crime be found guilty? All of these questions are answered in the end. This book would be good reading for high school level and up. It contains no profanity or intimate scenes. Voted first-place winner of the 2004 BAIPA Award for Best New Book in the Adventure/Mystery category, The Payload is just one very good story that you will find difficult to put down!
