William Wilberforce: A Hero for Humanity Review by Nancy Wagner

This is a biography of William Wilberforce, an English statesman who overcame tremendous odds over many years to get the British slave trade outlawed in England in 1807. He lived from 1759 to 1833 and died just days after learning that that slavery itself was outlawed throughout the British colonies.
The book is an easy read for the average teenager and adult despite the direct quotes from Mr. Wilberforce's writings and those of his contemporaries in formal old English. Mr. Belmonte does a good job of showing Mr. Wilberforce's Christianity, his dedication to the cause of eliminating slavery, and his extensive philanthropy as he put his Christian beliefs in action.
This is a book well worth reading. I was unaware of Mr. Wilberforce's importance in history, in England and America as well as Africa. I came away highly enlightened and in awe of his Christian walk. I would highly recommend this for teen or adult readers.
