And the Bride Wore White: Seven Secrets to Sexual Purity by Dannah Gresh, and Who Moved the Goalpost? by Bob Gresh are two amazing books.
These fantastic books were written to help your son or daughter on their road to sexual purity. Dannah is the founder of Pure Freedom Retreats, a ministry to young women in which she teaches about sexual purity. In addition to writing books, Bob and Dannah hold purity retreats across the country (check out their web site to see their speaking schedule www.purefreedom.org). Girls will find And the Bride Wore White: Seven Secrets to Sexual Purity an exposé on societies lies about sex. It gives seven helpful guidelines for staying sexually pure during their dating (or courting) years, and includes a chapter on breaking off sinful relationships. And the Bride Wore White includes journaling exercises to help you use this book to change your life. This is not a book to hand over to your daughter and expect her to miraculously desire purity - read it first and use it as a stepping-stone to discussing why purity is important. Another thing this book is not is a formula for purity. Get a copy and share it with your daughter. You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait until my daughters are old enough to read And the Bride Wore White: Seven Secrets to Sexual Purity! I consider this a MUST READ for girls.
What Dannah Gresh did for girls, Bob Gresh has done for boys with Who Moved the Goalpost? I am not a boy, so I am giving a MOTHER's opinion on this book. It was terrific. I loved the sports theme (it will get guys reading), the sexual integrity challenge, the graphics, and the cute figure at the end of most chapters. This book opened my eyes to the pressure boys and men face today. For example, I had not realized what an obstacle I can be to the men I know. That said, let's run through the material included in Who Moved the Goalpost? It is divided into three parts. Part One is "Satan's Three Sex Lies," Part Two is "God's Three Truths," and Part Three is "Seven Strategies for Success." Journaling is not only for girls, and Bob asks his readers to keep a notebook to work through the "Sexual Integrity Challenge" in each chapter. These questions are profound and will challenge boys to really think. The effort they give to this book will be worth it. Two sexual integrity challenge examples are to evaluate whether they have clean boundaries in their life and to write down the qualities they would like in the girl they marry. I think this is a MUST READ book for all Christian boys.
