Imagine studying the Bible while exploring the world of fabric, color and sewing--and making a lap quilt! Sounds like a beautiful educational experience, and Ms. Drain and Ms. Elliott have put it together for us.

The study begins where all good studies should begin--in the beginning. As your student opens her Bible to Genesis, she is introduced to light and color. After an introduction to the color wheel, she starts to stitch--first on paper to get the feel of it, then on fabric. Did I mention that almost everything you need is sold with the book? There are pre-cut fabric scraps corresponding to each lesson, binding strips for the lap quilt, and a plastic seam marker to use as the student learns to sew quarter-inch perfect seams.

In further chapters, students study complementary colors, harmonies, hues, tints, shades, and more. They are introduced to hand sewing as well as machine sewing. Over the course, they study eight types of quilt blocks: the eight-pointed star, flying geese, Garden of Eden, snowball, King's crown, half square, and picture block. Students complete their quilt by learning how to tie a quilt and hand-quilt or machine-quilt the finished product.

I love the idea of this book! I plan to use it over summer break with my 13-year-old, who is finally interested in sewing. The writing tone is so warm and friendly. It feels like these two lovely ladies are sitting right next to you giving instruction.
