I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book of daily reflections. I feel it can be used in many ways--as an educational resource, as a means of promoting cultural awareness, as part of a personal meditative time, etc. I read of men and women that I have never heard of and the great contributions they made to society. I also read of many historical figures that I have heard of, such as Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Maya Angelou, Martin Luther King, and John Coltrane. The sketched drawings are very wonderfully portrayed throughout the entire book. Although the book is divided up by months, it does not specify particular days of the week. So it could be used year after year.
I feel that this book is well worth every penny of the purchase price and that it could be used in the public education arena as well as in home education. My 14-year-old daughter enjoys studying black history and really enjoyed thumbing through this book. There is enough information that a child aged 9-12 could do a short essay on one of the people presented. And an older child or an adult could use this book as a starting point for a more in-depth study or research paper.
