Reach for the Stars! Young Author's Fiction Workbook Review by Amy Christy
By Susan K. Marlowhttp://www.susankmarlow.com/
As a huge fan of the Andrea Carter Circle C Adventures, written by Susan K. Marlow, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to use this writing curriculum. Just as I expected, I was not disappointed and found yet another high-quality product. At one hundred forty-four pages, this perfect-bound workbook is packed full of creative, easy-to-follow lessons and humorous clip art.
Your students will learn "The Five Elements of a Good Story," how to create a character and to show their feelings, setting and descriptions, as well as many other concepts on the way to writing their very own story. Susan Marlow knows how to connect with the students and her years of experience really show. She presents these concepts in an interesting format that makes writing fun!
For a homeschool mom like me, who teaches boys who do not typically enjoy this kind of work, this workbook was a real blessing. It can be used for individual students or in a writing workshop in a group setting. There is also a page of extra ideas, activities, and hints to expand the lessons. The Reach for the Stars workbook is offered in print form or as an e-book. In addition, reproducible, black-line masters are available for teachers in a co-op setting from the author's website. I highly recommend this writing workbook for any homeschool.
