Listen & Live Audio is a company that provides audio books to libraries, schools, and the general public. They also provide an audio book rental service, allowing homeschools to enjoy audio books that might not be available from other sources. As a bonus, Listen & Live audio provides audio clips of their titles on their website, allowing you a sneak preview of the titles you are interested in.

We reviewed two of their many audio books. The first was Miranda the Great, which was written by Eleanor Estes. We were familiar with Eleanor Estes's work (having read Ginger Pye and Pinky Pye among others) but had not ever heard of this particular title. We were not disappointed!

My children thoroughly enjoyed hearing of the adventures of a cat named Miranda and her daughter Punka as they crossed ancient Rome during an attack by barbarians, seeking shelter for themselves and a number of orphaned kittens. This particular audio book was read by Lyssa Browne and was very entertaining. At three hours, it was long enough to occupy us on a recent car trip but not too long to listen to a second time over the course of a week or two of errands around the city.

The second title we reviewed was Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris. I was not familiar with Ms. Ferris's work, but since listening to this title, I will be investigating further. Her writing was enjoyable for both me and my children. This story tells of the adventures of Christian and Princess Marigold and is set in a kingdom full of trolls, giants, kings, and queens. At seven hours this story was significantly longer, but we didn't find it burdensome to listen to and were disappointed when it came to an end. This story was read by Carrington MacDuffie, a very talented voice artist who kept us on the edge of our seats for the entire tale.

If you haven't discovered the wonder of audio books for your homeschool, I would highly recommend you do so immediately. Listen & Live audio makes it much easier to incorporate this wonderful resource into your child's education.
