The Covering: God's Plan to Protect You in the Midst of Spiritual Warfare is a glossy soft cover book of 153 pages with 6 additional pages of Student Leadership University information, 2 pages of Introduction, 2 pages of a key, and 4 pages of notes divided by chapter for chapters one through eight, plus a closing page about the authors.

Each chapter begins with a verse and the entire book builds predominantly around Ephesians 6:10-17. The New International Version of the Bible is used throughout, unless otherwise noted. The book is organized as an eight-week study of the Bible, the authors introduce God's plan to protect His people from evil. Although based on Hank Hanegraaff's book The Covering, it is a stand alone Bible study and does not require an additional book.

Student Leadership University has designed a study guide series to increase the knowledge and understanding of God and His Word for today's youth, this is one book in the series of eight guides. Other guides cover subject matter relevant to young people today, including: what to do with their lives, what it takes to be a leader, making a life of significance and impacting others, living a Godly life, how to effectively evangelize, living life through adversities, and one guide that approaches eight of the most difficult subject areas faced by teens today. This particular guide covers the Spiritual Covering God provides as outlined in Ephesians chapter six.

The Student Leadership University study guides cover material thoroughly on six levels--see it, hear it, write it, memorize it, pray it, and share it. Each chapter is divided into sections using the levels by first introducing the key Scripture, then offering a relevant point in "Why Know It" before moving through sections titled "transfuse," "infuse," "diffuse," and a final "fuse box" before working through days of journaling and study. Private world devotions are listed out as days for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with an identical rundown for the devotions each week. Each week focuses on a different area of the scripture, while covering it in the same fashion as the previous week.

Boxes of pertinent points, definitions, and quotes are scattered throughout the book in every week of the study and include more Scripture and quotes from individuals like Charles Spurgeon, St. Augustine, D.L. Moody, and Roger "Verbal Kint." The study book provides space for writing in answers and thoughts during the study, with additional journaling pages at the end of each chapter and daily instructions for the Bible study. The six levels of study are completed in the journaling portion of the book with Monday spent reading surrounding passages of the scripture, Tuesday reading aloud and personalizing the Scripture, Wednesday writing out the scripture, Thursday memorizing it, Friday focusing on praying about the Scripture, and Saturday sharing it with others. Additional space for notes is also provided at the end of each week of the study. This study was designed for all middle school and high school students desiring to further their relationship with God while increasing leadership skills.

The Student Leadership University study guides offer a student bible study for young people who truly desire to be leaders making a positive influence for the body of Christ. The Covering: God's Plan to Protect You in the Midst of Spiritual Warfare is a well written study of a often quoted, but commonly misunderstood, Scripture passage of the Bible.

Equipping our young people today is an important part of education for every family, but certainly essential for those home schooled. My daughter and I found this study brought about great discussions regarding spiritual truths and allowed me to witness her knowledge and growth in the Word of God. We completed this study just before she was leaving for an international mission trip and God's plan of protection during spiritual warfare was a very real comfort for her. The additional definitions and quotes were valuable to us in our study and offered a bit of extension activities for me, as her teacher. We were able to research more about the various individuals quoted and read further when additional Scriptures were offered.

Understanding the Bible, particularly when referencing God's preparation for His people in times of battle, is an important part of the growth of every Christian. We found the repetition of the various definition boxes: infuse, transfuse, etc., to be monotonous and annoying, but otherwise thoroughly enjoyed this study and will complete additional studies in the Student Leadership University series of study guides. For students who work ideally with a planned program to be completed in the same way each week, this study is ideal as it moves through each week of study in exactly the same way. It is also easily expanded into a more complete educational activity for homeschool use by utilizing the internet and library for research of additional quotes, definitions, and scriptural references.

The Covering: God's Plan to Protect You in the Midst of Spiritual Warfare is one book in a series of eight offered by the Student Leadership University that will increase a student's knowledge and understanding of God's protection of Christians during spiritual battle.

Our teenage leaders today will be our world leaders in just a few short years, and preparing them for a close walk with God is essential if we hope to reach the world for Christ. This study guide stands alone, may be used with the author's additional book, The Covering, or will work well as one in the series as you work through all eight of the Student Leadership University study guides with your student. Bible study with our children is an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of their relationship to God and this study guide offers a great tool to learn together while teaching your student. This series provides a deeper study for students desiring to be positive leaders in their youth group, church, or school functions, and is easily adapted for even deeper study in a home school environment. We look forward to enjoying additional study guides in the Student Leadership University series.
