Craftsmen: Christ-Centered Proverbs for Men Review by Jennifer Barker

When I think of skill, I think of someone who has worked hard on a particular area (i.e. music, art, public speaking, etc.) in their life. Yet, is that where true skill lies? Is it in building yourself up and trying your best to make something of your life? Or is it in nurturing the important areas in life? John Crotts tells us which one is the real area of skill that we need to develop.

Craftsmen is a book which teaches men how they can lead their family in Christ. (Hence the title) To be honest, when I first picked up this book I thought it was going to give a set of guidelines and ideas on different ways to have family devotions and ways to include the family in discussions about God. These areas are important, but Crotts goes deeper. He hits the heart of the matter. Wisdom. If a man does not have God's wisdom, then he will never truly be able to lead his family.

This book is divided into two sections: The Foundation and The Handiwork. The Foundation describes what wisdom is and The Handiwork describes how wisdom is put to daily use. Each chapter ends with thought-provoking study questions. It is an easy read and contains only 155 pages.

I liked the book, but I would recommend it for men who are married. It could apply to anyone, but Crotts deals with issues that pertain to married men only.
