Good Luck Duck is an audio CD of the book Good Luck Duck by Meindert Dejong read by Jim Weiss. The book itself is no longer in print. This adventure story, written in 1950, is about a young boy who goes to the state fair and wins a duck. The boy then has to figure out how to manage the fair with the duck, not to mention taking the duck home. All you need to hear this wonderful story is a CD player. The story has ten tracks and lasts for 72 minutes.
We used Good Luck Duck for our younger children in our car rides to and from places. The story has many details and is best suited for elementary-aged children. Our children were engaged by Mr. Weiss's soothing voice. The CD could also be used in home for a listening exercise or as exposure to children's literature of the 1950s.
Mr. Weiss has a wonderful voice for narration. He has won many awards for storytelling recordings, such as the Parents' Choice Foundation award. The story was beautifully written too. The children enjoyed listening to the CD.
Originally, I thought that Good Luck Duck would be a hit for the whole family. However, I found that the story had so many details that the preschooler had a difficult time keeping up.
Now that I have heard a story narrated by Mr. Weiss, I understand why people seek out his recordings. He has a great voice for narration. Good Luck Duck was a good production.
