Having trouble coming up with unique and creative ideas to help your little one master the alphabet? Then let Evan-Moor Educational Publishers help with their new resource, Jumbo Fun with the Alphabet. In our homeschool, we have found that just the right balance of creativity with routine is a key to success. Jumbo Fun with the Alphabet lends itself very naturally to this style of teaching and exploration.
Each of the 26 letters of the alphabet is explored through a series of activities. Do you have to use all of them? Of course not, but the repetition of the style of the activities is a great way to help build routine into the school week, even with the little ones. For each letter, teaching ideas and activities are presented in eight different categories.
"Read It! Bibliography" contains a wonderful list of books that explore that letter or emphasize an object that starts with the letter.
The "Eat It!" section for the letter C leads us right into the kitchen to make our favorite custard recipe to have along with a warm cup of cocoa.
"Draw It!" for the letter E involves drawing a small blue robin's egg, a large brown chicken's egg, an egg with a crack, and a hard-boiled egg with a yellow yolk.
"Write It!" allows the student to practice his penmanship in writing lowercase and uppercase letters as well as a couple of short words that begin with the letter. A corresponding picture is at the top of the page to add some coloring fun.
The "Make It!" activity for J instructs your early learner to make his own paper jumbo jet using the reproducible patterns provided.
Other reproducibles included in Jumbo Fun with the Alphabet are a cut-and-paste letter recognition sheet, a reproducible storybook, and a full-page letter and picture card.
The familiarity of doing the same types of activities for each letter will help your early learner master the alphabet, beginning handwriting skills, and sound recognition. At the same time, the variety represented will help to keep the blahs and boredom from attacking your day. "Jumbo" really means a jumbo resource when you choose Jumbo Fun with the Alphabet from Evan-Moor Publishers.
