When we received Tiny Bear's Bible, its "cute factor" made us all smile. The exterior of this board book is wrapped in plush with a teddy bear face on the front. It's available with both a boy bear and a girl bear cover. The book is sized perfectly for little hands, at 7.5 inches by 8.25 inches.
Speaking directly to the preschool child, Sally Lloyd-Jones has written rhyming one-page verses for the Old Testament stories of Creation, Noah's ark, Moses, David and Goliath, and Daniel in the lion's den. She also includes rhyming verses for the New Testament events of Jesus' birth, Jesus calming the storm, the Lord's Prayer, Zaccheus, and Jesus' resurrection.
Igor Oleynikov has created warm illustrations that complement Sally Lloyd-Jones' verses beautifully. The verses and the illustrations both have an old-fashioned air without being outdated. Each verse includes a Bible illustration as well as an illustration of Tiny Bear and her family that helps the child relate to the Bible story. I could sit and enjoy the artwork long after my three-year-old has wandered away.
The price is higher than we usually pay for board books, but I love the illustrations in this book so much that I would consider buying this book. It would make a special baby shower gift or Christmas gift. My three-year-old loves her pink Tiny Bear's Bible!
