You probably already know that God is called Adonai, Emmanuel, and Everlasting Father in the Bible. But how about Horn of Salvation, Friend of Sinners, or Jehovah-Tsidkenu? This little book explores 100 names of God, both well-known and less familiar, to give the reader fresh insight into who God is.
The 100 names are in alphabetical order. Each name is at the top of the page, followed by a Bible verse or passage that uses the name. A short explanation of the context of the passage and the meaning of the name follows. The entry ends with some personal application about the name. In addition to the names listed above, you will find names such as Head of the Church, Rose of Sharon, Second Adam, Mediator, and Word.
The reading level is appropriate for teens and up, but younger kids would get a lot out of it because of the vivid pictures created by the names. The book would be perfect for family devotions for homeschoolers. We've been in the practice of mentioning a name of God when we give thanks for meals. It's a wonderful way to think about His character regularly through the day. This book will give us many more names to draw upon!
The lovely book design makes it a nice gift; it's both attractive and thought provoking. Barbour's "Top 100" series includes books about men and women of the Bible, miracles of the Bible, and women of the Christian faith. You'll have much to praise God for after reading this book.
