As homeschoolers, we know our children pretty well. How well do they know themselves? This set of Student Keys will help your student know himself and then apply that knowledge to his life. What a gift to give your child! In the Student Keys binder there are six short workbooks. Each helps your student to learn their strength and natural preferences in the areas of personality, learning, thinking, motivation, career choice and goal setting.
The Personality Style Workbook gives the student 15 questions. The answers identify the student on the DISC continuum. D stands for Drive and challenges, I for Influencing and relationships, S for Steadiness and consistency, and C for Compliance and constraints. Then for each category, students are given their corresponding general characteristics, strengths, potential limitations, greatest fear, what motivates them, and their ideal environment.
The Perceptual Learning Style workbook identifies the preferred senses for learning. Students may be auditory, visual, or kinesthetic. Strengths and weaknesses of each are identified, and learning tips are suggested.
The Cognitive Thinking Style workbook sorts thinking styles into these categories: literal, intuitive, theoretical, or experiential. Explanation is given as to where your thinking excels, where your thinking is limited, how you work in a group, and how you work alone. Tips are given for improving learning for each group.
The Values Style workbook helps students identify whether they value loyalty, equality, personal freedom, or justice and teaches them to understand others' values. The Career Choice workbook gives the student information about the 21st century workforce and helps to match careers with personality styles. A final Goal Setting workbook helps students pull it all together. They learn to set specific goals, manage obstacles, prioritize, and make decisions.
Can you see the incredible value of this information? Students will be better prepared to make life decisions and set goals. Benefits to your student include increased learning retention, increased GPA, better understanding of personal strengths, improved communication skills, improved goal setting skills, appreciation of individual differences and learning styles, and strengthened relationships and self confidence in new social settings.
In a traditional school, students have counselors, academic advisors, and guidance personnel at their disposal. This program can fulfill all those functions for the homeschooled student!
