The Bible-in-a-Year Family Program is a CD for use on your home computer that includes a plan for reading through the Bible in a year. It can be started on January 1st or any day of the year. Just insert the disk into your computer and open the contents to start on either plan. The downloadable program takes you through the Old and New Testaments at the same time. Each day has two key verses that you can either meditate on or memorize. Worksheets are included for each day's passages, with questions, true or false, multiple choice, and fill in the blanks. You can print off as many worksheets as you need for each day. Answer keys include references for easy-to-find passages for each question. Wisdom searches are also included on the disk.
According to the author, this Bible program is designed to check for understanding on what the Bible "says," not what it "means," because children must first learn what the Bible says. With this growing knowledge, Shaw further explains, it is then possible to examine what the Bible means; both are equally important. Shaw says, "Every Word is Important. It is interesting to note that in Genesis 3:1, Satan's first words spoken to man were about the very issue concerning what the Bible really says when he confronted Eve leading her to doubt and sin when he asked, "Yea, hath God said . . ."
The Bible-in-a-Year Family Program gives parents the opportunity to discuss key points in detail with an older child while just sticking to the basics for a younger child. Our family has been using the lessons as a daily reading assignment, with the worksheet to check for understanding and to spark discussions.
Because this system is so orderly, it is easy to stay on track with your goal of reading through the Bible in a year. Scripture is from the King James Version, but the program is compatible with NASB, NIV, and ESV as well.
