This DVD tells all about the state of Iowa. This company is producing a separate DVD for each of the states. I am very impressed with the amount of information packed into this presentation. Using these DVDs with a U.S. Geography course would be an excellent way of showing your child the diversity in the fifty states of the U.S.
I would probably have chosen a different state to preview, given the choice, but I found all the information about Iowa very interesting, as did my pre-teen granddaughter. It was a nice mix of industry, history, tourist attractions and events, and beautiful scenery. I was especially intrigued by the story about the Amana colonies. This religion-based group of colonists established themselves in Iowa to practice their religious beliefs and in the process developed a working industry that benefits the entire group even to this day. This is now also a popular tourist stop.
I recommend this video and the entire series for viewing as part of a U.S. Geography curriculum. At $24.95 per DVD, it might be a little cost-prohibitive for one family to own fifty of them, but perhaps a local library or homeschool co-op would find them a beneficial purchase. I would certainly purchase a DVD about my home state to enhance my granddaughter's study of that particular state.
