Italic Handwriting Series: Getty and Dubay Review by Jennifer Pepito
http://www.handwritingsuccess.com/When I began my homeschool journey, I searched for the best handwriting program available. The Getty and Dubay Italic Handwriting Series was recommended by so many friends and homeschool leaders that I had to try it. We have used it for two years now and are hooked based on our own excellent results. We were able to start a kindergarten student and second grader with no transition problems for the latter. I especially like the way they start your beginning writers. The strokes needed for making letters are practiced and then they move into forming the alphabet, one page for each letter, with an illustration corresponding with that letter, as well as room for practice without lines. The first book, "Book A," also has an assessment to help you know when your student is ready for writing. The teacher's manual expands on this, including ideas to encourage handwriting readiness. The authors are veteran teachers and the system is based on classic letterforms that were first used in Italy and later in England and Europe. Another advantage to this program is that there are no new letters to learn for the transition to cursive, the joins are simple to implement and your student's resulting handwriting is beautiful as well as legible. The great price and the anticipation of learning calligraphy because of this program are great motivators. A homeschooling must have!
Publisher's note: I, too, would like to stress the beauty of these products. Our own children were excited when they were presented with their own workbooks. My youngest son has already completed most of his first book and really enjoys it. The workbooks are easy to follow and are good for "self-taught" learning (like when Mom needs to get on the phone for a half hour!). I am impressed with Getty and Dubay, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Start writing legibly - it's possible in short order with this program!
