Meet the SqueeGees is a delightful CD featuring 14 playful songs that will make young children giggle, smile, and sing along. These catchy little tunes are whimsical, fun, and musically engaging.
Many of the songs teach valuable social and environmental lessons. For example, "Apples, Oranges, & Peaches" describes the values of eating healthy. "I-D-E-A" is a song about recycling, exercise, and taking care of our earth. The song "Ivan the Terrible" has a special lesson about compassion and empathy for the hurting people around us that we might otherwise label as "grumps" and never try to understand. The song "Jonathan the Tree" is a sweet story in song depicting the beauty of being different and the importance of liking yourself.
Other songs on the CD are wiggly, giggly fun. Songs like "Making Noises," "De Colores," and "Animals That We Love" invite the child to interact with the music through responses and movement. It would be very easy to adapt motions to these songs and get children moving and active. Last, there are silly songs with tunes that stick in your head and make you laugh. "Nala the Chihuahua," "Bubbles," and "The ol'www" are examples of these. Children have a blast singing along to these playful songs.
The variety included on this CD makes it fun for kids and adults. The vocal harmony and musical talent are appealing even to adult listeners. The CD contains over 40 minutes of child-friendly listening as well as a large coloring page folded up in the front pocket of the cover. More coloring pages are available to download in the Mommy's Corner on their website. At the website you'll also find videos, music samples, and fun photos from SqueeGees fans.
Most of the time my family listened to this CD in the car. When we listened in the house, the playful tunes inspired instant dancing and sing-along fun. My five-year-old especially loves to listen while she takes her bath. The song "Bubbles" is great inspiration for reluctant bathers. I think Meet the SqueeGees would most appeal to preschool-aged children. At first, my eight-year-old rolled her eyes at the silliness of the songs. However, the light welcoming feel of the music is so inviting and fun that it didn't take long for her to crack a smile. Before she knew it, she was singing along. In fact, she is listening to the CD alone in her room right now as I'm writing this review.
The Meet the SqueeGees CD can be purchased exclusively at Target. The price is very reasonable, and there are many ways you could build on the song themes and ideas with activities and discussion. For only $7.99 you'll get 14 great songs and a coloring sheet! My family truly enjoys listening to Meet the SqueeGees, and I would happily recommend this CD to anyone seeking enjoyable, kid-friendly music for the whole family.
