The Summit: Faith Beyond Everest's Death Zone is the true story of Eric Alexander and his life journey of leading people with disabilities on dangerous mountain climbs. In 2001, Alexander was part of an Everest summit team that included blind climber Erik Weihenmayer. The 222-page book includes stories from that trek as well as Alexander's adventures on other mountain-climbing teams.
The stories describe the ways in which Alexander's faith was tested and obstacles met and overcome. It is a book of amazing encouragement that all people can apply to the mountains they face in their own lives. At the end of each chapter, Alexander has included some devotion points that relate to the things he learned on each trip. These reflections are very insightful and encouraging. Also included in the book is some stunning photography of beautiful mountain-climbing scenes. I would recommend this book for junior high age on up. Parents should be aware there are some sad and intense sections that may bother sensitive children. I found The Summit to be an inspiring and encouraging book.
