Aloha Cheerio celebrates the life of a family's beloved pet and faithful friend. Join author, Judy Friesen-Wood, as she remembers her dog's life and copes with her death by encouraging others who have also lost loved ones.
In this colorful children's book, Judy tells the story of her precious Min Pin, Cheerio, from beginning to end. Through rhyme we learn about how she came to be part of Judy's family, all the places she lived, what she liked to do, and even how she got sick. Her daughter adds a sweet, personal touch by drawing a few of the illustrations.
Though the text lacks rhythm and cadence and has some minor punctuation and grammar issues, I think the author still gets her message across--helping families, especially children, deal with the loss of a loved one whether it's a person or an animal. The story certainly touched my six year old daughter, for she said with big, sorrowful eyes, "Tell them it was a cute and sad story."
If your child has recently experienced the death of a pet and you are okay with the concept of dogs going to heaven, this book may help ease your child's pain. This 23-page softcover is available at www.authorhouse.com for $8.99.
