The Voice of the Martyrs has long been one of our family's most beloved Christian ministries. VOM's mission is to assist those around the world who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ, according to Hebrews 13:3, "Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body." The Bold Believers books are an excellent way to help children understand some of the challenges that believers face in nations that are hostile to the gospel of Christ. I reviewed the books for North Korea and for the Uygur people group in China, but there are also many more titles available through the VOM website. The books are each over 50 pages, with beautifully bright color pictures. They contain a nice mix of background information on the culture, and some history of the country or people group, real-life stories, puzzles, games, craft ideas, recipes, language practice, etc.
The stories inspired us as we learned about these two groups, and prayed for these courageous people. Understanding and praying for those who are persecuted is a constant theme throughout the books. We found the Bold Believers books to be fascinating and educational, as we learned about the day-to-day cultures and challenges of believers in North Korea, and among the Uygurs of China. We also found them to be inspiring, as we prayed for men, women, boys, and girls who risk their lives every day just to own a Bible, or utter the name of Christ. Whether you are interested in teaching your children about different cultures, or want to encourage them to understand and pray for the persecuted church, our family would highly recommend the Bold Believers books for your homeschool!
