A Christmas Carol is an unabridged dramatization of Dickens’s classic tale. I received the compact disc format which also contains an MP3 CD ($24.95), but you can also purchase an MP3 download alone for $14.95. The audio book comes in a sturdy cardboard container with hinged plastic cases for the CDs.
The CD tracks range from three to ten minutes in length, mostly about five to six minutes. On the first disc there are five MP3 files (one per chapter) for those who want more portability for their story listening.
Our family loves audio books, and we have listened to many of them over the years. This particular audio book is a high caliber recording. You can hear every sound, and every consonant is crisp and clear. One man, Steve Cook, narrates and aptly provides all the character voices, complete with British accent. The pacing and emphasis are perfect.
This recording received high marks from our family of five for the background music and realistic sound effects, both of which are fitting and never distracting or overwhelming. You can hear horses clip-clopping, city noise, stormy weather, Scrooge snoring, and more.
Treat someone you love to A Christmas Carol! It would make an excellent Christmas gift. It would be an excellent addition to your listening library. Can’t you just envision your family sitting around the fireplace listening to this on a cold winter night?
