Whispering Wally the Sand Art Secret, is written and published by Kevin Collier. This is a heartwarming e-book of a whale that is a gentle giant and whispers to his friends when he speaks to them, giving him a reserved demeanor.  He is soon joined by his friend Torrie the sea turtle who is a very curious, young at heart turtle. Torrie seems to be rather adventurous and has a secret that only the sand can reveal.  Each day Torrie is found making dust in the sand on the ocean floor. Whispering Wally is very curious as to why Torrie is digging in the sand but Torrie wants to keep the secret. Whispering Wally continues to wonder until Torrie is ready to share what she has been working on these many days gone by. You will have to read to find out what Secret Torrie holds. The story ends with a moral to the story that you can share with your children. The e-book version for your Kindle is $0.99 and the book version is $6.99 as listed on Amazon. Whispering Wally the Sand Art Secret is based on a television program that will appear on Amoeba television in the spring.

We used Whispering Wally in our homeschool as a read aloud for my preschool aged child as she completed a mini unit study on the ocean.  Her first grade brother enjoyed sitting in on the story as well. The book could be used within a character study on patience or as a lesson on how God views us all as art, beautifully and wonderful made.

My children enjoyed the book and I liked how it had a pure element to the story. I’m not often someone who rushes toward books that are made in the name of television but we did enjoy this story. I probably would not have gotten the chance to share it with my children if I had not been reviewing it. It isn’t something I would have thought to select. However, I would select more books from this company to use in our character education.  Ocean animals have a warm place in our families’ hearts as we love visiting the ocean.
