This is a biographical historical book that covers the history of the Craig family, most notably Lewis, Elijah and Joseph. It consists of twelve chapters and 179 pages. It covers their earlier lives, their conversions to the Lord and many of their adventures and accounts of their preaching including their eventual migration to Kentucky. It is honest about their character - showing some of their weaknesses.
The book takes place in the 1700's right around the years leading up to the American Revolution. It shares a lot of their individual trials including decent in their fellowship and how they dealt with that. It gives a new perspective of what was going on in the colonies of those who had come to faith by who were outside the established Church of England. If you think there was always freedom of religion--there wasn't!
The Craig Family had a large influence in Virginia and Kentucky where they started several towns we know today and at least one college (Georgetown). You may not read much about them nowadays but they were quite influential in their time!
Our family read this as our evening reading time with ages ranging from 5 to 43. It was appropriate for all these ages. There are a few sections where it might lose the interest of the younger readers because it does go in to some depth of detail but there are also some very exciting chapters too.
Those who would probably enjoy this the most would be those who are interested in history and especially Christianity around the time of the Revolution in this part of the country. Definitely those from Kentucky who would like to know more about this history of their State. There are some encouraging accounts of faith that would be an encouragement to all believers as well.
Overall my family and I would recommend this book to others.
