This review is on the Cupcake Set made by the Green Toys company. This kit includes toy cupcakes that have interchangeable pieces that can be mixed and matched to make the color “flavor” combination that the child desires. The set includes five cupcakes, each cupcake has three pieces: the wrapper, the cake, and the frosting. It also comes with a blue cupcake stand/holder that can display the toy cupcakes. It can also display real edible cupcakes and meets food grade requirements to do so. The set has 16 pieces total.
The Cupcake Set is geared for children ages 2 and up and retails for $24.99. It is great for imaginative play for preschoolers who love to serve up pretend food for their friends, family, and/or stuffed animals. The Green Toys company prides itself that their toys are made in America with no BPA or other toxic materials. The toys are made from 100% recycled plastic and are eco-friendly.
My children had a blast adding this to their toy kitchen food options. I was served up a variety of “delicious” cupcakes through their imaginative play. It pairs well with their tea set. When comparing them to the toy kitchen food that we already own, it was very obvious that the quality of these toys were far superior to our other “non-green” toys.
I was thrilled that these were made in America and not in an overseas factory somewhere. This is a comfort to me as my infant constantly has pieces of this in his mouth as he is teething. There are also no small parts that I need to worry about him choking on, which is an added blessing. The product is very sturdy and held up perfectly under much child use. It is definitely not your cheap plastic that cracks easily, it is much more durable and can take a beating.
For those who are concerned about their environment and what materials are lurking in their children’s toys, this would be a fun buy. The price point for the set may seem high when compared to other generic kitchen food toys, but when you consider the quality of the toys and how and where they are made, this seems a fair price. This would make a great gift for a pre-school age child, for who can resist creating yummy and delicious “food”? These cupcakes are included in every pretend play cooking scenario my girls come up with, so it has definitely kept their interest. I would recommend this product for any child’s pretend play collection.
