Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns is a user-friendly online sewing course designed for ages eight and up. Because it utilizes patterns for doll clothes and accessories, it is especially appealing to younger girls who are just learning how to sew. The course includes six weeks of video instruction, along with corresponding simple patterns to practice the techniques taught in the videos. Once a beginner signs up to learn sewing through this course, they can watch the introductory lessons that familiarize them with using a sewing machine and setting up their materials. After this, they will move on to the actual instructional videos, learning to sew an article of clothing. To complete the projects, every detail is thoroughly explained, from selecting material and cutting patterns to finishing each project in style.

The entire course consists of about 130 short videos and eight small projects. The clothes that are sewn can fit either an American Girl or Cabbage Patch Doll. Once those projects have been completed, the website contains additional patterns that may be purchased individually or in packages.

Instructional videos for projects are separated into logical sections, making it easy to repeat or review just one step of the process without having to repeat the entire video. Rosie teaches and explains throughout the video, and also demonstrates close-up details of the project step-by-step, so that the beginner can compare their own project to the model being demonstrated.

Starting a membership at Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns is quite simple. Once the membership is purchased online, for $37, patterns can be immediately downloaded and printed. Membership includes lifetime access to all the instructional videos, streamed live from any online source such as a laptop or tablet, as well as the original eight patterns. There is even an instructional video to assist in printing the patterns correctly off your own printer!

Rosie also maintains a blog on the site, offering updates and occasional free patterns. She makes herself available through email to answer any questions.

This program was used by our daughters. It was a great fit for them, since their American Girl dolls love new outfits as much as they enjoy learning to create them! Both girls are beginner level sewers, and had a very easy time navigating the website, and using the videos to create cute accessories for their dolls with very little assistance from me, a more advanced sewer. The pride and satisfaction they felt from mastering new sewing skills while creating practical items for their dolls was unmatched. We are very pleased with this program and will continue to use it to enhance our sewing skills. I highly recommend this program not only for children and teens that are learning how to sew, but also for adults who wish to learn to make doll clothes as gifts or improve their sewing techniques.
