Our family has just completed a unit study on rockets and over the course we have shot off Alka-Seltzer rockets, water rockets, and fuel rockets. We were excited to add the air-powered Stomp Rocket to our rocket arsenal. We loved the idea that it was safe for the kids to do without much parent supervision.
On our first use, we took the rocket kit to our neighborhood park. It is a breeze to set up and our kids were entertained for over an hour watching the rockets shoot off. They were quickly joined by many other children who all had a blast shooting and retrieving the rockets. It didn’t take a rocket scientist for them to figure out that the smaller kids couldn’t send the rockets shooting very far and that the parents and bigger kids could give the rockets a more powerful launching. The rockets went surprisingly high. . .my guess would be well over a hundred feet. The extra rockets (the box came with 4) quickly became used as balls and were thrown and chased around the park as footballs.
Next we shot off the rockets at night so we could see the LED feature on this rocket set. That added another level of fun for sure. The lights were bright and it was fun chasing them in the dark and following their lighted path.
Although our family had a blast with this rocket set, I will say that the tripod that the rockets launch from is pretty flimsy and had to be adjusted and fixed after every couple of launches. It made it challenging to shoot straight up and to stomp on the launcher without it disconnecting. For the price point of $21.00, it was definitely something we could live with.
Overall, we highly enjoyed this LED Stomp Rocket kit and think it is very entertaining. It would make a great gift for children or as an addition to a science unit.
