Have you read that book before? The one that has you feeling like you are in it? You are a part of the story? I just finished Diary of a Christian Foot Soldier: Hope on 37th Street and I feel like I just got done talking with a friend.
David Murray took us with him right onto 37th Street in this book. We are pulled in instantly with the easy to read chapters. The writing of the book is just like listening to a friend tell you a story of what happened to them. The details bring you in without over powering you. We see, feel, hear and smell what was happening the whole time.
This almost 300-page paperback book is just the right size to hold in your hand all day. I easily had it with me, reading it while tending to all 4 kids. Yes, it was that good that I carried it around the house all day. The font is simple and decently sized to make the reading easy.
Murray takes us on journey with him as he struggles with loss, the loss of his father and his previous, once promising life. We follow him as he is rebuilding. We follow along as he finds an old friend on the street. And we follow as he is taken out of his comfort zone, forced to look at his past and build a new strong foundation.
Along this journey, we feel all the feelings Murray felt. He brings those to us in his words. We feel sad, happy, scared and hope. Most of all Murray gives us hope. He is a true foot solider of Christ and brings Christ to all who read his book. Not only that, but we are left with such a feeling of Christ in us that we start following his lead and bringing Christ to others. Murray says it best on page 81 “We are His living representatives, His ambassadors if you will, and this is a responsibility we must not take lightly.”
After reading this book, I have a new outlook for everything. I was touched by the words and really enjoyed reading this. My only complaint is that I must wait to get his next book, at least I hope there is a next. I will be reading it as soon as I find it!
