Fun history, brought to life? Time traveling history teacher? Talking horse? Rush Limbaugh takes us there with Rush Revere and his time traveling adventures, not to mention Liberty the talking horse!

I have been in love with using literature to help my children with learning since I was able to read out-loud to them. Finding engaging books as they grew older grew harder. I have been able to read the Rush Revere series over the last few weeks and not only did I love them, but the kids did also.

Rush Revere is the star, along with his trusty sidekick, Liberty the horse, of four books, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, Rush Revere and the First Patriots, Rush Revere and the American Revolution and Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner. Each of these hard-covered books have over 200 pages of fun and adventure. The pages are a heavier style paper, which is colored to look like old parchment paper. Each book contains so many pictures, whether cartoon like pictures of the characters, or photos of the actual events, places or people the Time-Traveling Crew is visiting.

The stories are full of detail, and history. They are not dull or dry as some would think of history. Each story takes you to talk with exceptional Americans, but that is not all, you find all the details from before and after the time travel. Bringing history alive has not been done in this way before.

I read each one of these stories before reading them out loud to my kids. I was hooked from the first page. As I read, I thought of how the kids would react, how engaged they would be and how much they would not want me to stop reading. When I started reading these out loud, I was happy to see that my thoughts were true. The kids loved every word that I was reading, and this made me happy.

When we first meet Rush Revere, we are taken back into the time of the Mayflower and the Pilgrims. We also learn that Rush has taken on being a history teacher at a school. Rush takes the kids on an adventure they are not soon to forget, to meet the pilgrims.

When we join Rush in the First Patriots, we meet up with those who are taking part in the Boston Tea Party. During our trip, we get to meet people like Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere.

Heading into the American Revolution, we find out that one of the Time-Traveling Crew members has a father currently fighting in the Afghanistan War. While this crew member may be upset about everything, after meeting with Dr. Joseph Warren, George Washington and riding with Paul Revere, this member seems to understand what his dad is doing just a little bit better.

Finally, heading into the Star-Spangled Banner, we get the chance to visit Washington D.C. Not only that, but we meet up with James Madison, his wife Dolly, Betsy Ross and Francis Scott Key. We learn firsthand about how and why we have the symbols and documents we do in our great country.

Each one of the kids loved the stories. They loved the adventure we were being taken on. They loved the pictures and I loved seeing the pictures as well. Baby Girl was the only one who didn't sit through the stories, but everyone else was hooked. That means that everyone in my house, from age five up to adult has fallen in love with these stories and the adventures in history they take us on. Five to adult, that is a huge gap of people who would and should fall in love with these books.

If you find your kids are feeling bored with history, and you can't get them interested in what has happened in our country in the past, maybe you need to take them on a time traveling adventure with Rush Revere and Liberty the horse. This is an adventure you will be talking about for days, months and maybe even years to come!
