Eyewitness 2: The Window to the Heart is designed to educate and to encourage respect for the life of the unborn child. The short film was created by Shari Richard, a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, who has suffered the grief of abortion personally. She now works to equip pregnancy centers share God's grace and love with others. The title of the film is a quote from Shari herself, “The eyewitness of ultrasound is the window to the heart and speaks the universal language of the soul.”

This DVD set includes two discs. The first DVD has an hour-long loop of the five-minute Eyewitness 2 video. The five-minute Eyewitness 2 video is a compilation of ultrasound images that show the growth and development of a baby within the womb. It is set to instrumental music, with captions, but no spoken words. This prevents distractions, and allows the images to speak for themselves. It also allows the video to be used in many different cultural settings.

The second DVD in this set includes that same hour-long loop twice, once with English captions, and once with Spanish captions. The DVD also includes a twenty-minute classroom session Shari presents to high school students. In the classroom session, the Eyewitness 2 video is broken up into sections with Shari's voice reading the captions and sharing additional information, as well as short segments that show the students' reactions to the ultrasound images. The classroom session seems to hold extra ultrasound images that aren't included in the shorter looped video. The last thing on the DVD is a song called Precious Life, sung in both English and Spanish.

The primary use for this DVD set would be for a crisis pregnancy center or pro-life group to use in educating others. It can be played at a fair, in a lobby, or the classroom version can be used to teach high school students. The first images in the Eyewitness 2 video begin with a 3-4 week post-conception embryo that already has a heartbeat, and continue through each of the three trimesters. The images are a mixture of older 2D ultrasound pictures, as well as 3D and 4D ultrasound videos.

I have to admit that the first time I watched the video I was focused on its imperfections. The looped video flows smoothly, but the classroom session has some noticeable transitions between the Eyewitness 2 material and the other video clips they joined with it. The second time I watched it, I just let myself focus on the ultrasound images and the material presented. No, it's not big studio quality, but it's created with care, the ultrasound images are engaging, and I believe it can touch the hearts of those considering abortion, as well as help educate teens and young adults about the amazing beauty and value of the unborn child. I'll be passing this on to our local crisis pregnancy center so they can use it in their ministry.
