As a Christian homeschooling mother I feel that one of the most important things besides teaching my children the three R’s is hiding the word in their hearts. If I do one thing right along this parenting/homeschooling journey I hope that I have instilled a love of God in my children.  That’s why I was so pleased to be able to use the curriculum from Godstruck Ministries 4 Kids in our home.

This Bible curriculum is like no other that I have seen. It is a simple curriculum originally created for a Sunday school class with a mixed age group of kids. Or it can be used alone with an early elementary class as well. My children are audio learners, so put something to a tune and it will stick with them that much easier. Each curriculum page in the guide book contains seven main parts in addition to the Key Scripture Verse and Devotional Theme for each song including:

  1. Needs – Any supplies needed for the lesson are clearly described. Many of the items needed you will be able to find around your house. If something is needed to purchase I found that I could find the item at the dollar store or local discount store.
  2. Listen to – song and devotional track provided
  3. Activity/ Object of Lesson – Hands-on and visual portion to strengthen message being presented.
  4. Commentary – Scripted guide to help explain the message to the children.
  5. Coloring Page – Free downloadable coloring pages.
  6. Bible Passage – Each lesson includes a supporting Bible passage. The passage can be read from a standard Bible or the teacher can give a summary of the reading. Another option is to have the teacher read the Bible story that is listed from the My First Study Bible: Exploring God’s Word on my Own that is published by Thomas Nelson.
  7. Listen to the Song again – A fun movement is suggested to get the kids up and moving.

Accompanying the Curriculum guides are the musical CD’s that contain 29-31 tracks. Each track is broken down and correlates to the lesson provided in the curriculum guide. We also received the Song Movement Tutorial disc that shows the movements for the songs on the Way to Praise CD. Having a visual to the movements was truly helpful and my kids enjoyed it.

We were able to use this Bible curriculum during our Morning Time Recitations, which this year actually take place in the afternoon because of scheduling, with a mixed elementary group. My girls are 10 and 7 and my 2-year-old son also joined in singing and dancing. He especially enjoyed the coloring pages while my girls enjoyed the hands-on crafts. The Psalms in Tune curriculum was a welcome addition to our current Bible curriculum studies. I love that the lessons are short but really capture the message being presented in a fun way. We will definitely be using these song CD’s in our homeschool for years to come!
