We just love to Bible study in our family. There is never a dull moment when we are searching the scriptures and so I was especially excited to learn more about all nine of our senses, with the book, Our God-Given Senses. Did you even know that we have nine senses? This book definitely gives a new perspective and understanding of the senses which God has given every one of us.

This book contains fourteen chapters; each one is only a couple pages long but packed with scriptures that show us again and again how God created us for this amazing sensory experience. It is said that faith comes by hearing the Word of God spoken. If this one experience can have such a powerful effect on us, can you imagine how much more it could be, if we were alert and aware to how God works through our other senses?

As we read we explored all nine senses: smell, touch, taste, hearing, sight, hot/cold, pain, body movement and balance. Throughout the Bible we find references, commands even, to use these senses to grow and mature in Christ.

There is so much to learn within the pages of this book. I absolutely love how much scripture is woven throughout every page, as well as lots of interesting scientific detail. It is written that “the application of our senses carries with it a call for discernment between the things of this world and the things of God.” Poisonous food and drink has a bitter taste to it; the death of Jesus was a blend of bitter and sweet. There is so much more to these senses of ours, which are a connection that is truly amazing, between heaven and earth or spiritual and earthly things.

Clearly as we read we can see that this very detailed, sensitive, carefully arranged system was no accident. This book gives us more to think on as we eat our meals, worship our great God, as we keep our home, anoint with oil, explore His creation outdoors. What a unique and inspiring study this is! A beautiful way of showing how science only proves further this amazing God we serve.
