My oldest son recently completed a Bible Study “Teach the Teacher” program. Many comment on his understanding of scripture at such a young age. I just love seeing him spend time at the feet of Jesus, and see Jesus working in him and through him. Sometimes I forget that he is only 11 years old. It can be challenging to nurture his desire without overwhelming him with too much information. The I Can Study Series is a wonderful tool to use, for allowing our kids to study and go deeper, while still being something that is designed for children. My son is having a lot of fun right now studying 1 Samuel with this, in fact.
There are thirty-nine lessons included within this book and each lesson is broken down into daily lessons to be done Monday through Saturday. I love that every day’s lesson begins with Pray. Asking God to help us as we study; this is probably the most important thing we can do. Each week there is a Memory Verse to learn and also a section, Think & Pray About It. I love that one so much! Of course, each lesson also includes a number of questions, as well as space to write out the answers (my son wishes there were more space to write), encouraging our children to review and recall those important points from each week’s lesson.
There is so much we can learn from 1 Samuel beginning with the great blessing that comes from a willingness to sacrifice and serve God. We learn about why Elkanah had two wives. We have the chance to think about how those tough times can be used by God to bring His plan for our life to fruition. There are so many little things to learn in this study; the importance of burning the fat first. What does it mean to “keep the feet of his saints?”
This is so well thought out, so nicely organized. I love how my son can complete this whole study on his own. Some days I had to take the book away so he didn’t do too much all at once. This truly is an impressive material - this goes beyond what the scripture say, incorporating Biblical details, historical and cultural facts, geographical information, even a bit of mathematics here and there.
What a wonderful resource this is! I am so impressed with these materials. In fact, I plan to purchase more of these so that my other children can also enjoy some time alone with Jesus. I might even get a couple for myself.
