I have always loved to read. Having four children who range in age from 1 year to 11 years, it can be challenging at times to find books that all of us can enjoy together. We recently learned of Lamplighter Publishing, and I have to say, these are books that every one of us not only looks forward to, but cannot get enough of. We were so excited to receive a copy of Jack the Conqueror or Difficulties Overcome.

I have to say I was so impressed with the quality of the book. The cover is nice and sturdy; the pages within are not too thin. This is a perfect book for every one of my children to enjoy.

I love the very beginning, “Resolve well and persevere.”

What a powerful way to begin a story. And a lesson on something that my oldest son especially, really struggles with right now. What a blessed way to begin a story like this: even our children can accomplish great things when they combine earnest effort with energy and perseverance.

From the moment we meet Jack, it is clear that he has determined, at his young age, to be honest and helpful and to never give up. What a wonderful character for our children to learn from. My younger son was thrilled with how he and Jack both have a determination to learn how to read. This instantly made Jack a friend of sorts to him, and from that point on, he was so very invested in this tale. I think we could have read this book in one day if we had the time!

What adventures and challenges Jack has throughout this book! A story that is inspiring for every little boy. A precious reminder of the value of the Word of God too; not only are the characters steeped with Godly character, but references to scripture too! It is refreshing how many rich lessons there are within these pages. And the images—simple yet so very lovely.

I always appreciate good old-fashioned things; this book is one of those classic, traditional, timeless. Jack is the friend we all hope for our children to have—a young man full of determination and humility. He is a blessed role model for our boys (and girls too) to believe that any and all obstacles can be overcome.

We all loved this read, and I pray it has inspired my children, as it has myself, to enter into all things with a joyful and honest spirit.
