Let's Go Geography Review by Jacquelin Caffey

Have you ever wanted to travel the world with your children? Are time and money a limiting factor? For my family, they are. I know there are some places that my husband would love to take our family to explore. The next best thing for us to do right now is to immerse ourselves into learning all about the geography of different countries in our world.
But what if I told you that you could take a three-year trip around the world and explore select countries from each of the world’s inhabited continents? You can do just that with a subscription to Let’s Go Geography! This detailed curriculum is geared toward children in kindergarten through 4th grade, but I have found that it works well with my older middle school daughter who is in 8th grade too since we work on geography as a family.
Getting started is as easy as signing up for an account and picking how long you are wanting to travel, either a year or semester. Year-long travel includes 36 weeks of lessons automatically delivered to your mailbox each week for just two payments of $8.99. If you are only looking for one semester of geography study, you have two options available, weekly automatic delivery or a PDF eBook. Both include 18 weeks of lessons, but pricing and delivery options are different. The downloadable eBook is priced at $13.99 and includes 383 pages covering 15 countries. The weekly automatic delivery is available for two payments of $5.49 and includes 15 countries also. With this option, you will receive an email each week that your new lesson is available.
For this review, we received lifetime access to the semester 1 option as a weekly download. Countries to be studied in semester one include the US: the Northeast, US: Hawaii, Canada, Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, Greenland, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. Once you receive your email, simply login to your account and download the materials for the week and get started.
Each week includes six chapters that let you explore each country through mapping exercises, learning about the flag and music, as well as exploring areas through video clips. If you like hands-on, then this curriculum has that for you! Coloring pages and featured crafts are given for each country. Don’t worry about spending lots of money on craft supplies. Many of the featured crafts use household supplies like paper towel tubes, muffin cup liners, and plastic cups. Art material like crayons, paint, glue, and tape that you already have on hand at home are also needed.
The last section of your file includes any printables you will need, whether it be coloring pages or documents needed for your passport. Optional books to include into your study are given along with the call number so you can check your local library. Suggested other books are included also to give you a start finding. If you have younger children and need to slow the pace down, it’s simple to do. Simply slow down the lessons within the file. Also, there are break weeks built into the program in case you get behind and need to catch up.
We have been taking a slower approach to our geography lessons and, thus far, have studied the Northeast and Hawaii of the US and Canada. I love that each country’s file includes a bright vivid cover that makes you want to dive in to know more. My girls have especially enjoyed the video clips and the hands-on crafts! They have especially enjoyed the sightseeing adventures through the specific country and getting to see sights just as we were a real tourist. This program makes studying geography fun and exciting, and we highly recommend it!
