Lyrics of the highest quality strengthen our belief and understanding of God. This is what we are looking for in the music we are listening to. The Shaw Family Band is made up of the Shaw Family brothers and sisters. These young men and women each play at least one instrument and their voices are the ones we hear on the CDs. Ranging in age from 21 to 3 (though we don't hear the youngest on the CDs), the family is able to create joyful music and melodious harmonies. There are currently two CDs available: One Day and Everybody Sing JOY.
One Day
This CD has become a definite go to for our children. They listen to it often, singing along and praising God through music. The CD contains 11 tracks. A few of the tracks are traditional hymns, though the arrangements are new to fit the instrumentation of the Shaw Family Band. Each of the tracks is arranged by the Shaw Family Band to feature their unique sounds. From Coram Deo to One Day to America the Beautiful, each of the tracks is enjoyable and beautiful. You can find the track listing and samples on their website.
Everybody Sing JOY
This Christmas album is filled with beautiful songs that help us remember the true meaning of Christmas. Their unique harmonies and their combination of folk, bluegrass, hymn, and other grassroots-style music brings new sounds and meanings to these songs of Christmas. There are 12 tracks on this CD. One of our favorite songs is Do You Hear What I Hear? One Small Child and a combination of Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful also bring the joy of Christmas to us when we are listening. You can find the complete track listing and samples on their website.
With so many talented performers in the family, creating a group to share the worship and praise of God just makes sense. These young men and women are bringing the hope of the message of Christ to many with their music. Our girls have thoroughly enjoyed this music, taking the CDs to their rooms to listen to often and singing along. Asking us to play them while on the road and putting them on in the living room – all these are good indications that the children enjoy other children performing. With such a powerful, important message, we are more than happy to join the girls in listening and singing along with the Shaw Family Band.
