Have you ever needed a quick grammar reference tool? If you haven’t heard of The Flippers sets then you are in for a real treat. The Flipper sets are a collection of 15 to 25 cards that specifically pertain to the topic The Flipper is about. I received the three Flippers: the Phonics Flipper, the English Grammar Flipper, and the Punctuation and Capitalization Flipper. The Phonics Flipper includes the most common phonics rules for teachers and parents and is recommended for students in pre-K through second grade. The English Grammar Flipper and the Punctuation and Capitalization Flipper are both comprehensive guides to English grammar rules and definitions. They are intended for grades six through adult. We also received two blank Flippers to make my own sets.

The stack of cards attached to the Flipper stack are roughly about the size of a 3 1/2” x 5” notecard, with each card being laminated with double-sided with information. Each Flipper is also arranged in an overlapping fashion on a sturdy 6 1/2” x 11” plastic base. The elastic base is hole punched for easy storage within a three-ring binder.

These Flippers are great for review or drilling information. I have especially found them to be incredibly helpful as my children and I study our grammar lessons. There is not a day that goes by that we do not use both the Punctuation and Capitalization Flipper along with the English Grammar Flipper. My oldest daughter at home is in 11th grade and has also found the Punctuation and Capitalization Flipper to be invaluable in her AP Language & Composition class. Having this Flipper as a handy reference tool right at her fingertips has helped when she has a quick question.

The two blank Flippers we received have been put to good use too! The black 6” x 4” Flipper is being used as an alphabet Flipper for my three-year- old son who is learning his alphabet letters and sounds. To do this I designed a card for each letter and included several different pictures to depict the sound and letter. I also included the long and short vowel sounds. For the red Flipper, I have done the same thing but with number recognition to twenty. My son has really enjoyed using these and I love that they are portable and easy to bring with us as we travel throughout the day.
