My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Story Review by Renita Kuehner

Homeschooling is quite an adventure! Most people think that we just do school at home. Others think that we just sit around and watch television all day. The truth is that every family has their own style of learning. We recently had the opportunity to review the softcover book, My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Story, written by Carol Hookham. What a refreshing reminder about the fun of learning.

My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Story starts at the very beginning of a young child’s homeschooling journey. Such a new concept of learning with books is a bit scary for him. We follow the family’s adventures from the arrival of curriculum, to his daily adventures and learning time, all told from the view of the young child. You see how they feel about field trips, nature studies, learning with Mom and Dad, attending a co-op and triumphs at the science fair. You feel the sense of accomplishment the young child feels as he progresses through his year. You also feel his nervousness at his first state testing.

The young boy is encouraged to love learning even without textbooks through library visits, and learning outside books such as growing a garden, helping his neighbor and working on money skills at garage sales. They also have many more adventures on vacations.

My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Story has been a great reminder for me. Life around us is a great learning adventure. There’s so much to see and learn. The library is packed full of books to take our children around the world. Not everything is in a textbook. Sometimes we all need that reminder. I loved how the family found that balance between table learning and “fun” schooling.

The girls truly enjoyed My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Journey. They have been on so many adventures. Lydia realized that maybe she should be writing down her story. Carol Hookham’s story of a young boys developing a love of learning has inspired her to start to track her adventures more.

An inspiring story for parents and children alike! Be sure to add My Learning Adventure Begins – A Homeschooling Story to your library today.
