The rose Book of Bible Charts, Maps & Time Lines is a must have in our opinion. This book is full of colorful information, and the bend of hardback and spiral bound makes it durable, yet easy to open and lay flat for studying.
The book begins with a pullout time line that begins in 2200 BC, and continues on to 100 AD. The time line is tri-colored in blue, tan, and green to represent Bible, World, and Middle East history. The time line is approximately two and one-half pages long. On the other side is a graphical representation of the Tabernacle from Exodus 25-40 and Hebrews 9-13.
The 226 pages of this reference book are divided in to seven sections: Bible Overview, Old Testament, New Testament, Maps, Christianity, Cults, and Religions, Map index, and Subject Index.
Bible Overview:
This section covers things such as how we got the Bible, 100 Key People from the Bible, weights and measures, key Bible stories, and more. There’s also a Christian History Time Line at the end of this section.
Old Testament:
This section details the old Testament. It features 100 Old Testament Events, details and a pictorial representation of the Ark, the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and so much more.
New Testament:
This features a foldout Genealogy of Jesus, 100 prophecies that were fulfilled by Jesus, details about the Twelve Disciples, and more.
Maps:
In this area you will find a lot of maps, including maps of the Middle East and Central Asia, Middle East: Then and Now, Holy Land, Babylonia, Assyrian Empire, and Where Jesus Walked.
Christianity, Cults, and Religions:
This is largely a compare and contrast area. For example, there’s a section that has Biblical Christianity, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormonism, and Seventh-day Adventism listed with how they are similar and how they differ in terms of founder, Jesus, God, Salvation, and other beliefs.
Map Index and Subject Index:
Both of these are your standard index pages.
We have loved using this book. It is more than just a Bible reference for us. We have been using it has a supplemental book for our study of Ancient History, geography, and of course our Bible study. I love the wealth of information found here. The charts detailing lives, and birth order, really help us to get a better sense of who is who, and how they came to be. The Families of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob can be confusing when you’re studying them, and this book really breaks it all down nicely with each man having a section. We see the meaning of their names, their family order, and other notable information about each.
We love the pictures. They are really great. I wish the legend for each picture could be included on the same page, or even as a foldout to the page. It’s a little cumbersome to flip the page back and forth to see what the numbers all represent, but the pictures are large with a lot of detail to them. There are a lot of diagrams to temples, the Ark, and of course various maps. All of this work together to provide an excellent visual reference of the Bible.
I personally really enjoyed studying the Feasts of the Bible. Each is listed with “Fascinating Facts” and other general information included like dates and scriptural basis for the feast. I also appreciate the calendar chart for Feasts and Holidays. There’s really not a square inch of unused space in this book!
The only thing I would add to this book would be page dividers. I think tabbed page dividers would really be useful and handy. As it is now, the tops of the pages are color coded to their section. But tabbed page dividers would allow us to turn to the section we want easily, without having to thumb through the pages until we get there.
Overall, I highly recommend this to others. My family has been very blessed by having this has a reference in our home, and my son loves to look through the pages and read it for fun. He even takes this in the car! Having tabbed pages would be quite handy, but not having them doesn’t diminish the quality or usefulness of this in any way at all. The glassy, colorful pages are visually appealing and helpful when it comes to piecing together what we are reading. And the blend between a traditional hardback and a spiral bound book lends to durability and ease of use. I would definitely recommend this to others.
