Sometimes you have a student who needs a little extra help with reading. But how can you help them out? Language Olympics is a great program to incorporate into your schooling program to help your child get ahead.

Language Olympics is a learn-to-read program for teenagers and even adults. It is easily laid out to be used by anyone to tutor and help someone to gain those essential reading skills. Each set includes six student workbooks, with thirty lessons. In these thirty lessons, students can be taken from being non-readers to a fifth level in reading skills. If a student can master a lesson a week, the program takes roughly eight months to complete.

Each lesson has a standard format. You should dedicate 1-2 hours each week to this program to help your student succeed. Each lesson centers around spelling, phonics, and sight words that all enter around a special story. There are cards that can be used, and worksheets with sentences to help reinforce materials being learned. In order to start this program, students should have a basic grasp on the alphabet.

Language Olympics is all about flexibility. But encourages consistency. So, if a student is struggling in an area one week, keep working on that area. Everyone is different and moves at their own speed. But even if you continue to work on a lesson, consistency is encouraged so that the student does continue to make progress.

To encourage your success in helping students, whether they be your own or if you are tutoring individuals, Language Olympics wants to see you succeed so that your student succeeds. They provide several training videos to help you go through this series and include easy to follow patterns that you can follow in each lesson.

I really enjoyed the phonics approach that is presented in this program. What makes it nice is that it is specifically created for older students. You will not find it packed full of cartoon characters that teenagers could find “babyish” or even distracting if you are working with special needs students. This is a problem for our kids, as they get distracted very easily. But as we worked through the first couple books, Caty was able to stay on track. Even on lessons that took us longer to master, I have seen her confidence growing in her spelling abilities. She has struggled a bit, and that makes the flexibility of Language Olympics one of their top program benefits.

Language Olympics can be used by anyone and taught by anyone. If you are looking to help out a friend who missed out on early learning and is struggling as an adult, Language Olympics is a great program that you could suggest to help a child get ahead.
