As Christians, prayer is a vital part of our beliefs because it is how we communicate with God. Over the years I’ve found that it is never too early to teach little ones about prayer. My First Book of Prayers, presented by Worthy Publishing, is a fun, yet powerful way to introduce your babies, toddlers, and young children to prayer. This book houses short prayers that read like poetry, some of which have been around for many years.
My First Book of Prayers features ten short yet meaningful prayers for infants and toddlers. This board book is approximately 5” x 6” with sturdy, thick, and durable pages. The book’s construction makes it easy for small fingers to hold and turn the pages. The thicker pages also make it extremely hard for those same cute, small fingers to tear the book up. The material used to the create the book is easy to keep clean as well. If we spilled anything on it I just removed it with a damp cloth.
This book is compiled of prayers from different authors with each being noted on the page. Various topics are covered in the beautiful poetry of these prayers including wisdom, guidance, and thanksgiving. Each prayer is accompanied by soft yet colorful artwork showcasing young children playing, spending time with family, sleeping, and praying. The pictures match perfectly with the prayers and definitely catch the eyes of little ones.
We used this book daily for approximately two months. We would use it to start school for the day, at bedtime, or as our morning family prayer. Within two weeks our younger two had memorized a few of the prayers. Since the prayers are written in verse, each is easy to recite and remember. When our friends came by with their infant I also read a few to the baby while she was nursing. It made the new mommy comfortable which helped her little one relax during the feeding.
Talking to God is truly reassuring and this book has made introducing it to children much easier. My First Book of Prayers presents communication with God in a simple way for young children to easily understand. The variety of prayers is good and a few of our family favorites like the “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayer is included. This book would make a great addition to any home library or as a gift to an expecting mother. This book, presented by Worthy Publishing, retails for $6.99 and is available at various places in-store or online.
