The Okee Brothers Books and CDs Review by Lisa Rupertus

Being a mom of four boys I love the camaraderie of brotherhood. Growing up together, making memories and exploring the world. Of course, brotherhood can mean blood related or it can mean friendship. Founders and best friends Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing formed a bond at a young age while exploring the great outdoors. They grew up to create The Okee Dokee Brothers. This American folk band focuses on the outdoor fun with songs perfect for children.
For this review we received a variety of products which included two books and two CDs. Winterland cd is perfect for all the wintertime weather we have been having. Songs about snowy weather and ice fishing complete this 16-song themed album. Can You Canoe? – A Mississippi River Adventure Album includes 15 tracks the Okee Brothers wrote while on a month-long trip on the Mississippi River. The companion book – Can You Canoe?- includes a 12-song CD and all the lyrics for the songs along with whimsical illustrations to help tell the story of each song. Lastly, Thousand Star Hotel book is a story based off an old folk tale. It tells a story about two muskrats who meet a magical fish and get to make a wish. The two muskrats have vastly different wishes, and, in the end, they get exactly what they need. This book includes a 12 track CD.
All these products are well made. The CDs are of professional quality, both recording and packaging. The books are hard bound and beautifully illustrated by Brandon Reese. You can tell a lot of thought and time went into these materials.
We really enjoyed The Okee Dokee Brothers books and CDs. Folk music is one of my favorite genres and these albums did not disappoint. The lyrics are sweet and humorous often telling a story themselves. My personal favorite product was the Thousand Star Hotel book because it has a good lesson about contentment. We really enjoyed having the books with the CDs because it added another level to listening to music. Having material in hand to flip through while listening was a nice feature. Overall these were a hit for us, and I can see my boys reaching for them for years to come.
