Amy’s Flashcards by Steve Sobek is a website with different flashcard drills for students. There are five different sections of flashcards: geography, mental math, music, vocabulary, and Bible. Each section has more subcategories. Mental math has subcategories for adding, subtracting, multiplication and division. The math section also has videos with tricks to solve math problems. Additionally, Steve Sobek offers videos on how to use a Ti-84 graphing calculator, graph paper printouts, multi-purpose gameboard printouts, and flashcard maker printouts.
Parts of Amy’s Flashcards are free for anyone to use and then there are locked areas that are for subscription customers only. Amy’s Flashcards costs twenty dollars for a year for a family. There is also a group price of sixty dollars for a year and covers every family in that group.
I have two students who are five and eight. We used this website as a supplement to our learning. Each day, I allot some time to computer work. This is one of the sites we used during that time. Both students did some of the Bible work and both did a lot of the math. My eight-year-old student was especially interested in the math tricks that were taught. We also printed out the maps and capitals sheets and laminated them for practice, per his advice in his video. We do not use the flashcards every day but manage to use it a few times every week.
A great resource on the website is the Other Resources – Free area. This area has printable sheets for graph paper, gameboards, calendars, and flashcards. I appreciated having all of this in one place that was easily accessible.
This product is a solid supplement for geography and math. I thought the vocabulary and Bible were not really done in a flashcard way and did not fit as well into the product. I did use the vocabulary sheets for spelling words occasionally. The tricks for math were good and the geography section was done well.
I would recommend using Amy’s Flashcards if you are looking for a well-rounded supplement for what you are currently doing.
