I received the hardback book, A to Z Poetry for Kids, A to Z Careers, from Kellan G. Peterson. The book is excellent quality with nice thick glossy pages. Each artwork is in full color.

This is a wonderful choice to help children understand poetry and the breakdown of it. It has explanations in the beginning of the book and tells what this book is about. Each poem is a different type of poem. For example, D for Dancer is in Sedoka, which is an unrhymed poem made up of two Katautas. Then it gives a complete definition of these terms. It also gives definitions of any unfamiliar words in the poem. An example is throbbing, which means pounding.

Each letter has a descriptive career that begins with that letter of the alphabet. For example, A is for Archeologist, M is for Mail Person, V is for Veterinarian. I was impressed that these were lesser talked about careers in many cases. For example, I is for Illustrator and U is for Undertaker. My personal favorite was C is for Conductor.

The artwork is in full color and looks very realistic. The author used real people as models.

I think this would make an excellent poetry form study and combined with a career search. It would also be the perfect opportunity to learn new words for vocabulary and spelling. In the back, there are multiple places to write your own poetry and artwork. The author also encourages the children to send their submissions to her!
