Threadbare Prayer ~ prayers for hearts that feel hidden, hurt, or hopeless by Stacey Thacker is a compilation of 100 devotions. Each entry begins with a Bible verse followed by a prayer. There are then several I am, and You are statements. Next is a paragraph-long devotional followed by a threadbare prayer. Each devotional is two pages in length. A hardback copy of the book retails for $19.99. You can also purchase an E-book version for $19.99.

Anyone struggling and needing encouragement and hope could use this devotional. There is not a target age for this book. I think it would be appropriate for middle school and above.

When I first received the book, I thought that the title was so very fitting. I love how there is an actual thread looped through the title. Sometimes when we are going through trials in our lives, we feel completely depleted. The definition of threadbare in the book comes from Webster's Dictionary, THREAD'BARE: adjective (thread and bare) Worn to the naked thread; having the nap worn off; as a threadbare coat; threadbare clothes. Sometimes when we get to this point, we do not know what or how to pray anymore. We find ourselves on our knees groaning and crying out to the Lord. Yes, He hears our groans and cries and knows our hearts. This devotional helps to focus on God's truths. The size of the book is perfect for taking with you on the go as it is small, approx. 5 ¾” x 7 ¼”.

An example of one of the devotionals starts with the scripture verse from Hebrews 4:16, which says, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Next is a simple prayer. Then there are I and You statements. I: do not need to be afraid, can walk into your presence, find favor. You: sit on a throne of grace, invite me in, pour out mercy for my failures. A paragraph devotional follows. The threadbare prayer is last. The prayer is, LORD, I come to you because I can.

I would recommend Threadbare Prayer. If you or someone in your life are going through a challenging time, this would be an excellent resource and help.
