My daughter and I had the opportunity to take the Beginning Crochet Course, an online crochet course taught by Angela Plunkett. This course can be used with children, teens, and adults. Beginning Crochet is available for $97, has lifetime access, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The course consists of 10 self-paced video modules. In the first two modules, Angela explains how to select the supplies needed and basic crochet terminology in a clear and concise manner. Some stitches learned in the subsequent five modules include single stitch, half double stitch, double stitch, treble stitch, and crocheting in the round.

Once students master these techniques, the student moves to the last group of modules which cover magic loops, color-changing skills, and advanced techniques. Throughout the modules, Angela provides detailed, step-by-step instructions to help students learn every stitch and teaches students how to read written patterns, stitch diagrams, and color graph patterns.

The course includes four bonus videos that cover making pom-poms, tassels, fringe, and how to block a project. By the end of the Beginning Crochet Course, students will crochet several items, including a hot pad, dishcloth, scarf, shawl, coaster, hat, baby blanket, and purse.

My daughter and I decided to incorporate handicrafts into our day, and we both wanted to learn how to crochet. So, taking this course was great for both of us. We both appreciate the flexibility to watch the videos based on our family’s schedule and the ability to master the techniques at our family’s unique pace. While some students can finish the course in a few weeks, it took our family longer to complete the course.

Angela explains the concepts so clearly that my elementary student can follow along. The videos are brief and engaging. The hands-on lessons are great for kinesthetic learners, and each module includes a downloadable supply list containing everything needed to complete the projects.

Another nice aspect of this course is access to a Facebook group for Mastering Crochet students. The group contains tips and pointers to help students master the art of crocheting. The Facebook group is also an excellent place to ask questions about crocheting.

The only suggestion for improvement would be to add links to purchase supplies. Even though Angela provides sufficient details concerning suggested supplies, it would help new students ensure they buy the correct items for each module.

I highly recommend the Beginning Crochet Course. It is an excellent way to include handicrafts in a homeschool setting or to learn crocheting for fun.
